HOW WE WILL BEGIN

We will be collaborating as a group using the social networking site LinkedIn. If you have a LinkedIn account you will simply need to join our class's group. If you have never used LinkedIn you will need to join and create a profile. By creating a LinkedIn profile you will introduce yourself to your classmates and instructor as we "network". Keep this in mind as you create your profile. Include a picture, a summary, and optionally include educational and work experience. In the summary explain why you are taking this course, how you think it will impact your academic and career goals. Let your classmates know your expertise so that as we work on projects you will get an idea of which classmates would best fit on a team with you. Be sure you include a tasteful and professional picture of yourself. There are tutorial videos below to guide you through the process of joining and creating a profile. Once this is complete, the last step is to request to join the LinkedIn group for our class; "Health Informatics Course".

First, let's be sure that you understand what a social network is, and the purpose of LinkedIn particularly. The most well known social networking site today is Facebook. Other examples are MySpace and Google+. The list is endless. These examples are general sites, but the purpose of some social networks is to create communities of individuals with common interests. LinkedIn is one such network. It is a place where professionals can make business and job opportunity connections and interact with professional organizations. It is similar to Facebook, but is geared to professional communities. Here is a brief explanation of LinkedIn.
